Calling all AK-OLDIES Akron alumni.

Please join us for a fun tailgate before the Cincinnati game this Saturday, September 27.

We’ll set up at around 11:30 a.m. for the 3:30 p.m. kickoff.

There will be a photographer from the School of Communication. They are writing an article about the AK-OLDIES for their alumni magazine.

Bring your own food and beverages. We’ll have grills in which you can throw your meat. We will also have extra food and beverages for fellow Zips fans.

Just look for the new Akron flag with the gold AK-OLDIES flag flying underneath. We’ll be somewhere along the fence in tailgate city.

Well, the outcome was obviously not what we wanted, but we had fun anyway.  Our AK-OLDIES banner even got on the jumbotron at “The Q” twice!  Is it football season yet?

Thanks to all of the AK-OLDIES who showed up at The Q to cheer our Zips on to the MAC Championship game!

The weather was crisp. Snow was on the ground, but the eggs, sausage and coffee were warm as the AK-OLDIES tailgated before the Central Michigan game. It was great to see Jason, who came up from North Carolina, Luke, Ted, Mike, Phil, and of course, Bleacher Bum. We would also like to thank Coach Gerry Faust for also stopping bye and snapping a few pictures with us.

It is sad to see the football season end, well, maybe not THAT sad. We’re looking forward to the basketball season. We’re especially eager to see how many new members we can sign up as we staff tables for selected weekend home games at the JAR.

We had a great time tailgating before the Bowling Green game. Thanks to all of the Oldies and Zips fans who hoisted one with us. Too bad the game didn’t turn out differently. The BG fans who tailgated next to us were very gracious, despite a few boos when we lifted the colors (LOL). The weather was fantastic. A special treat was meeting Jamie Harsh. If you don’t remember the name, he was the one who was the holder for the 53-yard field goal that lifted the Zips over Toledo at the Bowl a few years back. Also a big hello to Captain Kanagroo, who showed up with little Kangaroo, to cheer on the Blue & Gold.

This is a BG student who was taking a survey on drinking and tailgating for a class he is taking. As you can see, he gets very involved.

Thank you to all of the AK-OLDIES who showed up at our Kent State tailgate. Beautiful weather, great food and friends and a Zips WIN! Like the old beer commercial used to say, “It just doesn’t get any better than this.”

Some of the OLDIES who showed up included, Rod and Sue, their son Danny and his girlfriend, Lisa. Luke, Chris M., Todd, his son Mitch and our new member, Chris. Also showing was Fred, Dana, Ted.

This was only our second tailgate, and they’re getting better every time. We would also like to thank our brothers and sisters in the AK-ROWDIES, who tailgated right next door. You know you can always count on a robust answer to, “A-K”….”ROWDIES!” Their dedication and enthusiasm for the Zips is fantastic.

We can’t wait for the Temple game.
